Most reports start as raw data, become pivot tables, and are reported as charts. However, with spreadsheets, this has to be repeated when data changes or filters/parameters change – an error-prone process.
This workshop is about closing the loop, doing less work, and doing better presentations.
In this workshop, we will share how to use Tableau to improve the analysis and presentation experience. In a hands-on session, attendees will go through a fast run of the major aspects of Tableau and learn the basics of creating interactive visuals with filters (to limit the data in the analysis) and parameters (to support the calculations driving what-if analysis).
In addition (by popular demand), we will touch on handling common data import woes: linking data across multiple sources, tabled broken across multiple files, and pivoted tabular data.
Time permitting, we will also touch on some of the other features of Tableau such as creating “dynamic app-like” interfaces and external integrations (e.g.: to bring in machine learning capabilities).

About the Speaker
This talk will be conducted by our Head of Data Science, Jeremy.
Jeremy holds a PhD in Decision Sciences at the National University of Singapore and a Master's Degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Computation for Design and Optimization, where he did a thesis on randomised methods for convex optimization.
Jeremy later earned a PhD in Decision Sciences at the National University of Singapore in 2017, with a thesis on "Social Networks and the Choices People Make" (discrete choice on social networks). During his PhD days, he also worked on recommendation systems and a start-up building solutions for compliance in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
